Exciting news for the new class of students starting at Savannah College of Art and Design this fall — the university has introduced four new schools in the realm of the motion picture industry. The School of Creative Technology, School of Animation and Motion, School of Film and Acting, and School of Visual Communication will all be available for students to study in the new semester.

The news comes after the university recently announced its new De Sole School of Business Innovation, which expands on SCAD’s existing schools, including the School of Design, School of Fashion, School of Fine Arts, School of Building Arts, School of Foundation Studies, and School of Liberal Arts.

“SCAD continually evolves because change defines global business,” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace. “Our brilliance never rests. SCAD offers degree programs today that didn’t even exist before SCAD invented them! Radical ly trailblazing courses of study like immersive reality and themed entertainment belong in a class all their own, which is why I’m proud to announce the creation of the SCAD School of Creative Technology, a Shangri-La for STEM stu dents worldwide, along with the newly formed School of Animation and Motion, School of Film and Acting, and School of Visual Communication. The future lives at SCAD right here, right now.”

The Savannah College of Art and Design’s School of Creative Technology is for the techies, covering degree programs including immersive reality, interactive design and game development, and themed entertainment design.

The School of Animation and Motion is for the next generation of Hollywood VFX designers and cartoon animators, offering degree programs in animation, motion media design, and visual effects.

The School of Visual Communication is for the more traditional artists seeking skills for the modern world, offering degree programs in illustration, photography, and sequential art.

Finally, the School of Film and Acting is for, you guessed it, the actors — and the people who make the magic happen behind the scenes. It offers degree programs in film and television, performing arts, production design and sound design.

Creating four new schools is just another example of SCAD’s efforts to listen to changes happening in the industry and prepare students to lead companies, brands, and studios by preparing them with knowledge in new and emergering technologies. The school also offers a rare degree in design for sustainability, luxury and brand management, and user experience design, among other unique educational options.
