e.l.f Glow Reviver Lip Oil — Jam Session

I got turned onto this lip oil because of my sister and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s fairly subtle in colour if you just put on one coat, but it gets more pigmented the more you add on, so you have complete flexibility in how dramatic it looks. It goes on smooth and feels lovely, and gives you a nice glossy shine without any of the stickiness or drying effect of normal lipgloss. I have a fairly dark skin tone with mostly cool undertones so I tend to veer towards darker colours because bright pinks and orange tones don’t look good on me.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick — Miss America

For a red lip, I always reach for this Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Ultra-Comfort Transfer-Proof Lipstick. It’s great for pale skin and cool undertones as “Miss America” is more of a deep red (less orangey!). I always wear this with minimal skin makeup and a simple eye — just mascara and eyeliner — or else it’s a bit too much all together. I also dab a bit on my cheeks for blush, but only a pea-sized amount because it is very pigmented! The lipstick lasts a really long time — which means you need to make sure to put it on right the first time, otherwise it’s a nightmare to rub off and redo.

I love this high-shine Tom Ford liquid balm. I typically style it with a more elegant black dress or pants for that chic, neat look. I have a more pale skin tone, so darker red shades suit me better.

I’m more into natural nude lip looks, but if I do need to spice up my makeup with a red lip I use one from Peripera, a Korean brand. The shade complements my tan skin and cool undertones perfectly. It’s velvety smooth, super light and actually very pigmented. I also like a more soft, powdery matte finish so I typically apply three generous dots of product on my lips and blend it out with a finger! It’s tame but still striking, plus, isn’t the packaging the cutest?

I bought this because it was cheap, but it actually ended up being the perfect red lip for me! I have neutral golden undertones with darker lips (and a fair-ish skin tone), and the product doesn’t show up orange at all — even when blotted, which is my preferred style. I also use it as a blush!

Dior Addict Hydrating Shine Lipstick — Dior 8

I have tried a million red lipsticks in search of a “true red” shade (including cult-classics from M.A.C. and Sephora), and never found one that didn’t appear pink on my extremely pale and freckled skin. Then I tried “Dior 8”. It’s marketed as a bright orangey shade, but on me it shows up as the perfect Madonna-esque ruby red. It’s not very long-lasting, but I have no issue reapplying as the formula is so comfortable and hydrating.

How It Works

Clinical Effectiveness

RF + MARP Combined

The first device combines deep active rotational massage (MARP) with a resistive radiofrequency producing rapid results and maximum effectiveness in treating cellulite, adiposity (body fat), sagging, as well as muscle toning. Generating a double thermal and mechanical effect on the connective tissue triggers three different actions at the dermal, muscular and vascular levels to activate the physiological process of tissue recovery.

Tailored Consultations

Nude Beautique devises personalised treatment plans tailored to individual needs. When asked for the lower body area I would like to focus on, I originally chose inner thighs which are notoriously hard to tone, but after their Operations Director Pauline (and expert therapist) performed an assessment, she recommended targeting cellulite instead. It was useful to have her input and it made sense that this would be a better area in terms of visibility to see how effective Zionic Rollactive RF is in targeting cellulite (or stubborn fat, uneven skin and poor elasticity depending on your area of concern).

The Experience

After slathering conduction lotion on the back of my thighs, Pauline put the machine to work, one leg at a time. The treatment itself feels like a warm, relaxing massage, the machine’s rotating balls creating an even, comforting rhythm. The temperature gradually increases to reach a maximum of 43 degrees celsius (aka the fat-burning sweet spot) before she switches to the other leg, at a slow enough pace that the build-up is manageable. She noticed slight inflammation behind the back of my knees which she tended to with the machine for added lymphatic drainage to boost circulation.

Immediate Impressions

Following the treatment, I noticed that the appearance of cellulite and its orange-peel look were diminished and that the treated area looked smoother overall, and dare I say tighter (thanks to increased collagen and elastin). Due to the warmth of the machine, the back of my legs had a post-workout rosy flush, perhaps due to the lymphatic system being activated which improved hydration — and my confidence.

No Downtime Required

The treatment was quick, painless and completely safe, as the temperature never reaches a point of posing any risk to the skin or tissue (as evidenced by clinical studies). No special post-treatment care is required, and Pauline sent me on my merry way with no lifestyle changes needed immediately after.

For Best Results

As with most body contouring treatments, combining this with movement and a healthy diet offer the best long term results. Pauline suggested at least eight of these 30-40 minute treatments once a week to see the best results.

5 Tried & Tested Dry Skin Hacks That Actually Work

Coming from someone who has dry skin and gets eczema every winter, here are some tried and tested dry skin hacks that actually get the job done.

While I enjoy how radiant and glowy (it’s all the excess oil) my skin feels in summer, come winter and I feel like the Walking Dead with pale, lifeless-looking skin. No matter how much thick moisturiser I’d slather on my skin (numerous times throughout the day), it just wasn’t enough, my skin would go right back to feeling like sandpaper.

As someone who had a full-on eczema break-out, I learnt quite a few tips and tricks from my dermatologist and am constantly looking for ways to improve my skincare routine every winter. Below are tips I’ve researched and some lesser-known hacks to tackle dry skin during winter time in Hong Kong – don’t forget those hand creams!

Lock In Moisture On Damp Skin

Not to sound dramatic but this tip from my dermatologist was quite life-changing! After you hop out of the shower, gently pat your skin dry, do NOT vigorously rub with your towel, that way some moisture still remains on your skin. Now, the trick is to find the short window when your skin is damp, not fully dry or even wet, but damp.

Damp skin makes the skin barrier more permeable, meaning products get absorbed better.

Sandwiching your products is an effective way to line-up your skincare routine. I’m a long-time fan of Caudalie’s moisturisers as grape water is intensely hydrating, but the light texture is often not enough to last me the whole day, so then I go in with Cetaphil’s cream and SPF from Cosrx which is oh-so soothing and gives me a nice and healthy glow. You can also use a toner first to deeper penerate the ingredients into your skin.

As for your body, you can stick to Cetaphil’s cream or I would also recommend The Ritual of Sakura Body Cream that’s dense and infused with soothing rice milk, or Petal Fresh’s Honey & Coconut Body Butter that’s rich with shea butter and a mix of oils like argan, coconut, jojoba and almond.

Try To Wash Your Face Only Once A Day And Ditch The Hot Water

Of course wash your face in the morning with lukewarm or cold water, but save your proper cleanse for the evening.

A hot shower that can melt my problems away is my guilty pleasure but hot water is definitely a no-no for those with already dry skin – it will only further strip natural oils. Opt for a face wash that’s creamy, gentle and moisturising – The Face Shop’s Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser is amazing, it leaves my skin plump and hydrated.

As for body wash, keep in mind to look for ingredients like niacinamide, glycerin, shea butter, hyaluronic acid and so on. For something more high-end, we’d go for Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash and for the cheap and best option, Mild By Nature’s Hydrating Body Wash will last you the whole winter season.

Nourish Your Skin Barrier & Use Plant-Based Oils

Your skin is your largest organ and the skin barrier protects us from pathogens and locks in the body’s water, without it we would be severely dehydrated, so in short, take good care of your skin.

Try to cut back on anything harsh on your skin like retinol which has drying properties, and keep your skincare simple, I recently started using The Ordinary’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum which packs as an all-in-one.

Your skin will also greatly thank you for incorporating plant-based oils like coconut oil, jojoba oil, almond oil or argan oil – you can either directly apply them on your skin after a shower or mix it with your foundation or moisturiser to have more control of how much hydration you want. A lot of these oils are anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial too, for an added bonus!

Use Hydrating Make-Up

Make-up that doubles as skincare is like hitting the jackpot! Buy less, but buy better with just the right make-up. Below we’re highlighting products that give a glowy, dewy finish even in the dry season.

Pay Attention To Fabrics

Sure, a chunky sweater looks cute but be picky with your fabric. You don’t want something that further irritates your skin, causing more dryness. I always like to wear a soft cotton tee (full sleeved) underneath all my sweaters to try and minimise itchiness. All-in-all go for cotton as that’s always the safest option, be it your jumpers, cardigans or jeans. A blend of merino wool and silk for sweaters also gets a thumbs up.
