If you’ve seen Part 2 of Selena: The Series on Netflix, you may be wondering whether some of the celebrity encounters Selena Quintanilla-Pérez has on the show actually happened in real life — like the one with Gloria Estefan.
Thankfully, Gloria Estefan herself helped solve this one.
In Episode 6 of the show, Lo Más Bello, Quintanilla-Pérez meets Estefan (played by Gloria Pollock) at 1993 Grammy Awards. Although its true that they were both present that night in real life, the true story of when the women actually met for the first time is slightly different.
Gloria Estefan weighed in on Twitter on Thursday to collaborate a fan’s memory that she and Quintanilla-Pérez met in 1992 at Premio Lo Nuestro, an awards ceremony presented by Univision honoring Latin music artists.
“I have been a huge fan of @GloriaEstefan since my childhood, and I always knew that Selena and Gloria really met for the first time during Premios Lo Nuestro in 1992. Glorita, could you confirm that?” wrote Twitter user @neioliveira.
“Absolutely!” Estefan responded.

The Twitter exchange, and a photo of Estefan and Quintanilla-Pérez together, is below.
MovieMaker wrote in an earlier version of this story on Wednesday that while Estefan and Selena were both at the 1993 Grammys, it was unclear whether they met there for the first time. A rep for Estefan did not respond to a request for comment.
But Gloria Estefan was happy to clear things up for devoted fan Claudinei Oliveira.
So there you have it, folks — Gloria and Selena did meet at an awards ceremony, just not the Grammys.
However, Selena: The Series wasn’t too far off. As the series shows, both women were present at the 1993 Grammy Awards. That night, Quintanilla-Pérez took home her first and only Grammy for Live!, which won for Best Mexican-American Album. Estefan, in turn, won Best Tropical Latin Album for Mi Tierra.
Some of the other stars Selena (Serratos) meets in Selena: The Series include songwriter Diane Warren and even a young Beyonce Knowles. Both of those stories are pretty accurate — Beyonce says she really did meet Selena as a young girl when she was at the mall in an interview with MTV Tres, which you can watch here.
And Diane Warren did write a song on Selena’s posthumously released album Dreaming of You called “I’m Getting Used to You,” according to the Houston Chronicle’s Preview. But unlike in the show, it was Selena herself who had dinner with Warren, not her brother, A.B. Quintanilla (Gabriel Chavarria).

It seems that Estefan never forgot her encounter with Quintanilla-Pérez, because in 2005, Estefan paid tribute to the late Tejano music star by performing Selena’s song “I Could Fall in Love” at Selena ¡VIVE!, a benefit concert held on the 10th anniversary of her death.
