On Taking Direction From Scott Hicks
He will talk me through the rushes
when we’re having screenings at the end of the day but it’s either
pretty self explanatory; when you look at the material you can see
what he’s intending.
On The First Cut
The film always ends up much tighter in the first
cut; a lot of things end up being not necessary anyway, just to
tell the story.
On The Screenplay
I’m
always looking to delete dialogue.
On Relying Too Much on the Screenplay
It’s often hard before you shoot a film to say which
bits are going to be superfluous; you have to shoot them but you’ve
got to be careful about what you use.
