Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All by Myself took the number one spot at the box office this past weekend, earning $24 million since its Friday release. The post-apocalyptic rag doll movie 9 has had a couple more days under its belt—it came out last Wednesday (9/9/09)—and earned enough to claim the number two spot with its weekend gross of $10.9 million, bringing its total gross up to $15.3 million. Quentin Tarantino’s WWII epic Inglourious Basterds—maybe you’ve heard of it?—fell one spot to number three. The rom-com All About Steve, starring Sandra Bullock and post-Hangover Bradley Cooper, took the fourth spot, while The Final Destination, which was number one last week, fell to number five, with a two-week gross of $58.3 million.
New releases Sorority Row and Whiteout weren’t able to crack the top five, coming in at six and seven respectively. Both underperformed this weekend—Sorority Row made $5.27 million, and Whiteout managed to pull in only $5.1 million. Documentaries No Impact Man and Joe Berlinger’s Crude also debuted this weekend, and though neither of them managed to crack the top 25, they both did well in their very limited releases, with No Impact Man taking in $17,500 at two theaters and Crude making an impressive $16,700 at one theater, giving it the highest per theater average of the weekend.
Next weekend sees the release of children’s animated film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant!, the Diablo Cody-penned Jennifer’s Body and the Jennifer Aniston/Aaron Eckhart drama Love Happens. None of them look to be humongous box office hits, but summer blockbuster season is over, so we’ll just have to see what comes out on top.
