My hopes lie with the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, coming this weekend. If you’re worried that you’ll be totally lost from the very beginning, you’re not alone — so we’ve compiled this who’s who in Old Westeros.

Depp + Pacino: Johnny Depp and Al Pacino are making a movie together again, 25 years after the crime classic Donnie Brasco. This time Depp directs and Pacino produces (onomatopoeia!) Modi, about tragic Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani, a contemporary of Pablo Picasso’s. The last film Depp directed was The Brave, in 1997 — the same year Donnie Brasco came out.
Brasco: Has my all-time favorite movie plot — someone goes undercover and begins to sympathize with the people they’ve infiltrated. I’ll always watch that movie, whether they call it Donnie Brasco or Mean Girls or White Chicks.

He does, and he’s opening it for us all with the upcoming Netflix series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Have you noticed that when people say “curiosities” it’s always a polite, understated way of saying “horribly upsetting things”? It’s like “novelties” that way. Just be upfront.
