Ezra Miller says they are seeking help for “complex mental health issues” and apologized for a pattern of behavior that has threatened to overshadow the upcoming Warner Bros. DC superhero tentpole The Flash, in which Miller stars.
The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, has had a series of recent legal issues.
“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller, 29, said in a statement. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

Reps for Miller did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MovieMaker.
Miller is due to appear for arraignment in Vermont Superior Court next month after being cited for felony burglary in Stamford, Vermont. Authorities said earlier this month that Miller took several bottles of alcohol from a residence while the homeowners were out.
In April, Miller was arrested for second-degree assault in Hawaii. Police said they became upset after they were asked to leave at a private residence in a subdivision and threw a chair, “striking a 26-year-old female on the forehead.” Weeks earlier, Miller had been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment after police said they became unruly and yelled obscenities while other patrons sang karaoke. At one point, police said, Miller grabbed a microphone from a woman singing, and lunged at a man playing darts.

In 2020, a social media uproar erupted over a video in which Miller appeared to grab a woman by the neck in Reykjavik, Iceland, yell at her, and push her against something behind her. Several people intervened. No charges have been filed and Miller has not addressed the situation.
Additionally, the parents of 18-year-old Tokata Iron Eyes, a Native American activist, filed a protection order against Miller earlier this year, accusing the actor of grooming their child and other inappropriate behavior starting when she was 12. Tokata Iron Eyes has disputed the accusation.
Miller’s behavior has been a PR mess for Warner Bros., which plans to release The Flash next year. The film may be a linchpin in the studio’s future superhero strategy because it links several timelines, involving both the Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck versions of Batman. Ezra Miller first played Barry Allen, aka the super-speedster The Flash, in 2017’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and continued the role in 2018’s Justice League.
