Snoop Dogg Biopic: If you thought Weird: The Al Yankovic Story was going to be the last music biopic on the horizon for a while, think again. It seems that Hollywood is just getting started, and the latest artist to follow the trend is Snoop Dogg, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper is producing the project and working with Universal, who has enlisted Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole and director Allen Hughes for the film.
Steven Spielberg: Is not happy with the way streaming services seized on the pandemic to raise prices and “throw some of my best filmmaker friends under the bus,” he said in an interview with The New York Times. The Fabelmans director wants you to go see it on the big screen — I saw it last night at the Academy Museum, and indeed, it is made for the theater — but Spielberg thinks that his 2017 movie The Post may have reached a wider audience because of streaming.
Our Universe Trailer: Netflix dropped the trailer for a gorgeous new nature documentary series called Our Universe today. Narrated by Morgan Freeman and premiering on Nov 22, the six-part series combines wildlife footage with cosmic special effects, exploring how our planet was created while also underscoring the connections between the natural world and outer space. According to Netflix, viewers will: “Watch the changing seasons impact an Alaskan brown bear and her cubs; learn what a single blade of grass has to do with a hungry cheetah on the Serengeti; soar through the waters of the Southern Ocean as the romance of two penguins underscores the most powerful force in the galaxy.” Watch the trailer below:
Baz Luhrmann Knows How to Make an Entrance: At the start of this Vulture interview centered around how the Elvis director’s opulent taste isn’t for everyone. The interview is great, but Luhrmann’s entrance shows just how dedicated he is to his films: “He’s wearing a gray jacket, dark jeans, and unblemished black hiking boots, with a ring with the initials ‘EP’ (for Elvis Presley, naturally) on his finger and the letters ‘TCB’ (Elvis’s motto was ‘taking care of business’) hanging from a chain around his neck,” writes Vulture‘s Matt Zoller Seitz.

Black Panther 2: Ryan Coogler, Angela Bassett, and Letitia Wright break down the long and arduous journey to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in a new cover story for Variety, from losing Chadwick Boseman to other misfortunes on set. “Chadwick was so unique of a person that it’s actually hard to understand him if you had never met him or had a chance to see him work,” Coogler said of their King T’Challa. “He really was the most unique person that I’ve ever met.”
Coronado Island Film Festival: Has announced its lineup and honorees. Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light is the opening night selection, Elegance Bratton’s The Inspection is the centerpiece, and Maria Schrader’s She Said is the closing night film, along with a screening of the classic Marilyn Monroe film Some Like It Hot. Honorees include Geena Davis, Jacqueline Bisset, Ron Shelton, Elegance Bratton, Charles Fox, and Vanessa Roth.
