Are Studio Ghibli and Lucasfilm teaming up together for a collaboration? It sure seems like it.
The Japanese animation studio behind beloved films like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro tweeted a video of the Lucasfilm logo followed by the Studio Ghibli logo on Thursday with no caption, leaving fans to only speculate as to what is coming from the industry titans.
Lucasfilm, of course, is the production company founded by Star Wars and Indiana Jones creator George Lucas. A subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, the studio is also behind films like The Land Before Time, American Graffiti, and David Bowie and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth.
To add to the speculation, Walt Disney Studios’ president of marketing Asad Ayaz quote-tweeted the video, commenting nothing but the side-eye emoji.
So what could this mean?
Well, we can’t say for sure until we hear directly from Studio Ghibli and/or Lucasfilm, but the most obvious guess is that together, the studios could be creating an animated Star Wars film.
The next projects on Lucasfilm’s docket that have already been announced are the fifth Indiana Jones film and multiple yet-untitled future Star Wars franchise installments.

Next on Studio Ghibli’s docket is How Do You Live?, an upcoming movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
Many fans on Twitter are betting on the idea that the collaboration will be about Star Wars. One Twitter user made a joking list of how Studio Ghibli films could be combined with Star Wars films to create titles like My Neighbor Chewbacca and Han Solo’s Delivery Service (the latter is a nod to Miyazaki’s 1989 film Kiki’s Delivery Service).
Some were skeptical of whether the project is even real.
“I have spent the entire day thinking that Ghibli Star Wars thing was fake,” wrote journalist Imran Khan.
Others were just wildly excited about whatever comes of the collaboration.
“This film is going to break the world,” wrote Offline TVs Brodin Plett.
Whatever the truth of the matter is, we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled to see what announcement comes next.
