Kristen Stewart is set to make her feature directorial debut with Chronology of Water.
Deadline broke the news on Wednesday, reporting that the Spencer and Crimes of the Future star will helm the film, which comes from Ridley Scott’s production company Scott Free. Stewart is reuniting with the banner after she worked with them to make her short film directorial debut, Come Swim (2017). She’s also starred in two of the company’s films: Welcome to the Rileys directed by Jake Scott and Drake Doremus’ Equals.
Based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir of the same name about her experience as a swimmer-turned-artist grappling with her sexuality and family trauma, Imogen Poots (Vivarium) will star in Chronology of Water and Stewart will work with Andy Mingo to adapt the script.

“Lidia’s memoir honors corporeal experience, radically,” Stewart told Deadline. “To make that experience physical feels vital to me and what this impulse means … is that it absolutely must be a film. This project has been cooking for five years with the help of Scott Free, whom I could not be more privileged to have as partners and friends. Imogen Poots will carry this movie and the staggering weight of Lidia’s life. She can hold it. I am beyond lucky to have her.”
Ridley Scott will produce Chronology of Water alongside Michael Pruss and Ming, with Rebecca Feuer executive producing, Deadline notes.
