Remember Bounty Law?: If you’ve seen Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, you’ll remember the Western half-hour TV show that starred Leonardo DiCaprio’s actor character Rick Dalton as bounty hunter Jake Cahill. Well: Our own Tim Molloy is confident that the new TV series Tarantino had announced will be Bounty Law brought to life.
Indie Spirit Awards: The nominations are out for the 2023 Indie Spirit Awards. Best feature noms include Bones and All; Everything Everywhere All At Once; Our Father, the Devil; Tár, and Women Talking. John Patton Ford’s Emily the Criminal, starring our Summer cover star Aubrey Plaza, was nominated for Best First Feature. See the full list of nominees here.
She Said: It might not be doing too well at the box office, but She Said is a beautiful, gut-wrenching movie that I deeply enjoyed and highly recommend as a weeknight watch. I spoke to the screenwriter, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, about what it was like to sit down with the original women who came forward with allegations against Harvey Weinstein in the New York Times‘ famous 2017 report on which the movie is based. Lenkiewicz says the experience was “rather beautiful.”
Spielberg Gets Golden Treatment: The Fabelmans director will receive the Golden Bear award for lifetime achievement at the 2023 Berlinale Film Festival. “With an incredible career, Steven Spielberg has not only enchanted generations of viewers all over the world, but has also given a new meaning to the ‘cinema’ as the factory of dreams,” said Berlinale directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian.
Iger/Disney Details: When news broke on Sunday that Disney had hired Bob Iger back as Disney CEO after his departure two years ago, it was a shock to everyone. Now, Variety has another surprise: an exclusive report that Iger was actually negotiating a new role at RedBird Capital before he was wooed back by Disney at the last minute. RedBird, as you remember from yesterday’s Rundown, is backing the new film production company from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Do You Love Lee Pace?: Vulture is giving him their third annual Vulture Festival Honorary Degree just because they like him so much. So if you, too, are a deep appreciator of The Hobbit and Pushing Daisies actor, then here is an opportunity to celebrate him — a man ” known not just for his acting work but for his ability to elicit an overwhelming thirstiness from his fans,” Vulture writes.
An Anna Delvey Update: The Cut interviewed her at her home, where she was confined on house arrest — except for when she gets to ride the subway to meet her parole officer, of course — and it turns out she comes off as pretty nice in person. That may come as a surprise to those of you who watched Julia Garner play her in Netflix’s Inventing Anna, in which she yells the TikTok-famous line “I do not have time for this, I do not have time for you!” in her vaguely European accent. It’s a pretty interesting interview.
