Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 is dead in the water.
The Gal Gadot-led third installment was scrapped ahead of a pivotal meeting next week about the future of DC Comics between the heads of the new film and television division DC Studios — James Gunn and Peter Safran — and famously picky Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, according to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter.
As co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, which replaces DC Films, Gunn and Safran have been hard at work preparing a blueprint for the next five to ten years of DC movies and television, and apparently, that vision doesn’t include more Wonder Woman.
According to THR‘s sources, Wonder Woman 3 got as far as a treatment from Jenkins co-written with Geoff Johns. It was after she recently submitted the treatment that Gunn, Safran, and Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy told her the project is over “as it stands,” as THR’s Borys Kit writes. By that wording, it still sounds like Wonder Woman 3 has a sliver of a chance of rebirth, though that seems unlikely.

THR‘s sources say the decision is not about the money, though the studio “could end up saving tens of millions of dollars by not making the third installment,” writes Kit, who adds that, according to his sources, Gadot was to be paid $20 million and Jenkins was to get $12 million for the picture.
No final decision about the next steps has been made, the outlet also notes, nor is there any official information out about Gunn and Safran’s vision for DC Studios, which is being kept closely under wraps.
It’s odd timing for news of the film being scrapped to break, considering that on Tuesday, Gadot tweeted a hopeful message about the future of her tenure as Wonder Woman.
“A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you,” Gadot wrote in the tweet.
It’s unclear whether Gadot knew about the state of the movie when she sent the tweet. Reps for Gadot, Jenkins, and Warner Bros. Pictures did not immediately respond to MovieMaker‘s request for comment on Wednesday.
